Thai Red Lobella Springtails

(Lobella sp.)

Thai Red Lobella springtails are a premium bioactive clean-up crew species prized for their deep red coloration, surface activity, and effectiveness in naturalistic enclosures.

Unlike common white springtails, Lobella sp. are more visually striking and are often seen actively grazing across substrate, wood, and leaf litter. They help break down decaying organic matter, manage mold, and support healthy soil systems in bioactive environments.

These springtails are ideal for keepers looking to build a balanced, living ecosystem, not just a disposable clean-up crew.

Care & Husbandry

Humidity

Thai Red Lobella springtails require consistently moist environments. Substrate should remain damp but never flooded. Dry conditions can cause population decline.

Temperature

They thrive at normal room temperatures:

Ideal range: 68–82°F

Avoid extreme heat or prolonged cold

Substrate

Best kept on bioactive substrates containing organic matter such as coco fiber, soil blends, leaf litter, and charcoal. Moisture retention is key.

Feeding

They feed on:

Decaying organic matter

Mold and biofilm

Bioactive substrates and leaf litter

Supplemental feeding is rarely needed in established setups but can be provided sparingly if culturing separately.

Ventilation

Provide light ventilation while maintaining humidity. Avoid airtight containers.

Ideal For:

Bioactive terrariums

Jumping spider enclosures

Isopod setups

Planted microhabitats

Mold prevention and soil health

Important Notes:

Premium species with higher care sensitivity than common springtails

Not recommended for completely dry enclosures

Color intensity and visibility may vary with environment and age

For invertebrate and bioactive use only

A living foundation for beautifully weird ecosystems.
